Testing For Nutrients

Testing For The Nutrients

Hypothesis: I think bread will be a complex sugar, I think the egg will be a Protein, I think the glucose/sugar/lolly will be a simple sugar, I think the apple will be a simple sugar, I think the milk will be a complex sugar.

Aim: To test if a sample of food contains protein.

Method & Result: 1&2&3
In 1 test, We tested Apple, Bread, and potato on two drops of Iodine and it just turned black because the Iodine was brown and brown means simple sugar and the black means complex sugar. Next, we tested Milk, Egg yolk, and sugar and we put two drops of Iodine and it did not turn into black so it means they all simple energy and it is fast to run out of energy. In test 3, we tested the 6 of the food we tested before and we put 5 drops of Benedict's reagent and then we boiled them, there was only 1 of testing food that did not change its color, It was bread I think that is because the bread is a complex sugar and the apple, egg yolk, milk, glucose was a positive and I don't know about the potato because its kinda turn into greeny ish. In test 3 we tried 5 drops of Sodium Hydroxide/NaOH(aq) and Copper(II) Sulfate/CuSO4(aq) on 6 of the food and 4 turned into purple wich is Glucose/sugar, egg, bread, and milk, then App and the potato didn't turn into purple, so in my belief, the purple means its complex sugar and the apple and potato are simple sugar.

  1. Hi Ryan,
this is a great first blog for science experiments! You had great labels and showed your results well. Next time it would be great to finish with the discussion explaining what you found out, if you enjoyed it and if you would make any changes if you did it again :)
